Statement of Purpose

Our group is a literature study group and in keeping with AA’s 5th Tradition of “Singleness of Purpose we have decided that the following is our meeting preamble;

 We, the “There is a Solution Group” of Alcoholics Anonymous in Ireland, are men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of our Group. We think this account of our experiences will help everyone to better understand the alcoholic. Many do not comprehend that the alcoholic is a very sick person. We are not an organisation in the conventional sense of the word.  There are no fees or dues whatsoever. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.  We are not allied with any particular faith, sect or denomination, nor do we oppose anyone.  We simply wish to be helpful to those who are afflicted. (Extracted and adapted from the Foreword to 1st Edition Alcoholics Anonymous)

Sobriety — freedom from alcohol — through the teaching and practice of the Twelve Steps is the sole purpose of our group. It has also been learned that there is no possible way to make non-alcoholics into A.A membersWe have to confine our membership to alcoholics, and we have to confine our A.A. groups to a single purpose. If we don’t stick to these principles, we shall almost surely collapse. And if we collapse, we cannot help anyone.  (Extracted and adapted from the pamphlet “Problems other than Alcohol”)

Our meeting is Open, that means that alcoholics, non-alcoholics interested in learning more about the programme of Alcoholics Anonymous are welcome to attend our meeting, either in person on Saturday Morning at 11am in the St. Patrick’s Pastoral Centre, Blackcourt Road, Corduff, Dublin 15, D15 VY8P or online by clicking this ZOOM link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89855486555?pwd=ajNvQWJjOXFPY2dwdEpGalhvTXNZdz09
